Welcome to J. Michael Conley Elementary School at Southwood! I am honored to be the principal at Conley and be a part of such a warm, welcoming community. Conley has a reputation for excellence in Leon County. This reputation exists due to our efforts in providing a challenging, individualized educational experience for all students. This includes creating a culture of respect in a safe, nurturing environment that supports the needs of students. All of this is accomplished with a great partnership between students, parents, teachers, staff, business partners, and the surrounding community. About Our School

J. Michael Conley School at Southwood provides students a positive, safe learning environment to grow academically, socially, and emotionally. Our low student to teacher ratio provides students a first-class education with caring, compassionate teachers that provide hands-on learning experiences in core subject areas. The teachers truly care about individual student growth, providing opportunities for all students to succeed in a challenging, yet supportive, classroom setting. Our community and business partners support the success of our students, providing unique opportunities for learning both inside and outside of the classroom.

In addition to our core classes, students at Conley are provided opportunities to grow in a variety of extra-curricular and special area programs. Whether students are interested in Music, Art, Science, Athletics, Technology, Engineering, Mentoring, or Math, they will have an opportunity to explore and refine skills that they can carry with them for years to come. Conley prides itself on creating opportunities for students to grow into future leaders in a community atmosphere, where challenging experiences are supported by a caring, compassionate school community.

These activities are supported by our surrounding community and business partners, creating a community environment both inside of the classroom and beyond!

Building Success Beyond Academics

Conley provides a number of unique programs and opportunities for students to succeed outside of the traditional learning environment. Conley offers a Run/Walk Club, Student Government, Safety Patrol, Math Club, Music Club, and more! These programs allow students to develop interests beyond academics and help develop well-rounded students.

Meghan Dawkins

Conley’s Teacher of the Year, Meghan Dawkins, has been dedicated to teaching kindergarten for 14 years, 10 of which have been at Conley Elementary. She also serves on the PTO Board as the Teacher Representative and Event Coordinator.

School History

Prek-5th Grade School Serving 852 Students

J. Michael Conley Elementary School at Southwood is a Prek-5th grade school serving 852 students. Our school was named after Michael Conley, a long-serving and highly revered school administrator in Leon County. The community at Conley is highly diverse, serving students from just about every major continent and integrating many different languages across our campus. Additionally, 11% of our students are learning English as a second language. Overall, our students and families reflect and embrace the vibrant, and dynamic culture of the Southwood community, emphasizing the importance of neighborhood engagement and the positive outcomes it provides for all of our residents.

The unique character of our student body is complemented and strengthened by our outstanding teaching faculty and results in continual academic achievement and instructional innovation. Here at Conley, we believe we are a collective body of dedicated individuals who are passionate about meeting the student’s individual needs and helping our students become prepared for the STEM world in which they will live and thrive.
